Friend — We are starting to see the real-world consequences of Trump and Republicans’ disastrous budget bill.

A new analysis by the Minnesota Department of Human Services shows that 140,000 Minnesotans could lose their Medicaid coverage as a result of this bill. I’m appalled.

I can’t imagine how painful this will be for my neighbors here in Minneapolis. When poverty makes everything in life difficult, when every day is a struggle to get by, the last thing one needs is to be forced off their healthcare plan and cut off from affording life-saving care.

Experts also say that the huge loss in Medicaid funds coming through our health system will force rural hospitals and health centers to close and drive up the cost of healthcare for everyone, not just those on Medicaid, as providers attempt to cover the funding gap.

Our goal between now and the midterms must be to remind the American people every day that Republicans voted to kick millions off their healthcare plans, and make everyone else’s healthcare more expensive too.

We need to win not just a Democratic majority in Congress, but a Democratic majority that will tear up Trump’s ugly bill, restore this Medicaid funding on day one, and fight to create a comprehensive Medicare-for-All system.

I have led this fight since I was first elected in 2018, because I believe at a fundamental level that your income or your background should have no bearing on your ability to get the healthcare you need.

Democrats suffered a historic loss with working class voters in the 2024 election. We have to show who’s side we’re really on — and make the case that Trump and Republicans turned their backs on millions of Americans so they could pass huge tax breaks for billionaires.
