Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy recently cut $500 million in vaccine development projects — threatening research into a cutting-edge technology being explored for cancer treatment.

This is a dangerous political stunt, John. The far-right has long stoked conspiracy theories about vaccines and other public health matters, and national Republicans have decided to play into them.

The swift development of vaccines is a lifesaver and a miracle of science. We know that vaccines have saved millions of lives from infectious diseases like polio and measles. The Trump Administration’s decision to gut vaccine research is shortsighted and dangerous.
