Dear John,

As spring transitions to summer, we’ve been praying that we’d see the impact of COVID-19 diminishing. And I’m encouraged to report that several prisons have reopened their doors to our staff. However, for the protection of all inside, returning to prepandemic access is an understandably slow process. Still, we are confident: We will resume our in-prison programming in the coming months.

Although I’m greatly looking forward to the day when I may walk back through the prison gates to share a personal message of encouragement with those inside, I am thrilled to report that, thanks to your prayers and support, God is still doing a mighty work through Prison Fellowship inside and outside the walls.

• During April and May, we distributed more than 20,000 Inside Journal-branded Bibles. We are so grateful to see that even while we cannot go in ourselves, God’s Word is being delivered inside prisons.

• Distribution of Floodlight, our new online portal that provides free, high-quality video content corrections staff may download and share on prison televisions and devices, continues to grow. Currently, prisons in 41 states with a potential reach of more than 470,000 prisoners have access to this positive, encouraging content. One chaplain in Illinois shared that Floodlight has been loaded onto the tablets of each person in his prison, adding, “ … you are changing lives and making a huge impact with this.” To God be the glory!

• We are excited to partner with Flikshop to provide free postcards to caregivers of Angel Tree children. Flikshop, a photo and message service, sends postcards exclusively to incarcerated men and women in the U.S. Thanks to generous funding from Stand Together, Angel Tree families will be able to keep in touch with their incarcerated loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic when visitation in person simply isn’t possible.

• While our Angel Tree Camping partners continue to assess their summer plans in light of the health and safety restrictions of their communities, we have distributed 2,359 care packages to Angel Tree families. Each contains a $150 grocery gift card, a Bible, a One Hope Gospel message, and a ball of the family’s choice. We continue to hear these packages are coming just in time, and one great-grandmother shared this heartfelt note with us:

I am reminded of the verse from Isaiah that states that God’s Word will not return empty but will accomplish all He desires. We see this happening each day and are grateful for your continued support and prayers, which make all of our work possible.
