Thank you, Gov. Evers!
Hi John,
Before he was even elected, Gov. Tony Evers made a promise to the people of Wisconsin by taking our Conservation Pledge – committing to protect clean water, fight for clean energy, and uphold the health of our communities and democracy. And from day one, he followed through.
Time and again, Gov. Evers has used his position, and especially his powerful veto pen, to stand up for Wisconsin families, safeguard our natural resources, and stop polluter-driven rollbacks in their tracks.
As his final term continues, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank him for the bold, consistent leadership he’s shown across so many fronts.
Highlights of Gov. Evers' environmental leadership
Landmark investments in clean water and public health. In his 2025–2027 biennial budget, Gov. Evers proposed over $300 million to remove lead from service lines, schools, childcare centers, and homes – and allocated $145 million to tackle PFAS contamination through stronger groundwater standards and cleanup efforts.
Groundbreaking actions against PFAS. The Governor led the adoption of Wisconsin’s first-ever PFAS-specific drinking water standards in June 2022 protecting families from these harmful forever chemicals.
Rejecting loopholes that weaken public health protections. Gov. Evers vetoed Senate Bill 312 in April 2024, stopping a polluter-friendly bill that lacked funding and undermined the DNR’s authority.
Environmental justice in action. In April 2022, he created the Office of Environmental Justice via Executive Order 161 – ensuring historically marginalized communities have a voice in environmental decision‑making.
A clean energy roadmap rooted in equity. His Clean Energy Plan (2022) charts a path toward 100 percent clean energy by 2050, includes training for a clean‑energy workforce, and projects over 40,000 new jobs by 2030.
A strong mandate from voters. We celebrated his reelection in 2022 and the preservation of his veto authority – an affirmation of his record in clean energy, safe water, and democratic integrity.
What this leadership means for us
Gov. Evers’ actions reflect a clear commitment to the health of our communities and the Wisconsin we cherish. Whether fighting toxic pollutants, securing access to clean water, or partnering with communities to ensure environmental justice, his leadership moves us toward a healthier, more equitable Wisconsin.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As Gov. Evers finishes out his final term, we’re already looking ahead to the 2026 gubernatorial election. The stakes for clean water, climate action, environmental justice, and healthy democracy will be high and we know how important it is to elect leaders who share our values.
We look forward to getting to know the candidates and what their plans are for Wisconsin’s environment and communities. You can count on us to keep you informed about the issues, the choices ahead, and how your voice can help shape the future.
