John,
Donald Trump and Republicans promised to cut costs for working families. But when they had the chance, they didn’t lift a finger to lower healthcare premiums. Instead, they passed a multi-trillion-dollar tax scam for billionaires.
Now, millions of Americans are about to be hit with another financial gut punch. Since Republicans are refusing to renew the Affordable Care Act’s expanded premium tax credit, insurers have started filing rate increases for 2026, including hikes of up to 50 percent in some markets, with a national average of 20 percent.[1]
That means a family of four making $60,000 could see their monthly premiums jump from $250 to over $600.[2] Older Americans and working-class families will be especially hard hit. And if Congress doesn’t act, over 4 million people could lose their coverage entirely because they just can’t afford it anymore.[3]
This is avoidable. Congress can still renew the ACA premium tax credit before it expires at the end of this year. But they need to act now in order to avoid insurance companies jacking up rates in response to the anticipated expiration.
Demand that Congress take immediate action to extend the ACA premium tax credit and stop the massive health insurance rate hikes that are already being proposed.
This is a manufactured crisis. Congress could have extended the enhanced tax credits months ago. But instead of doing their jobs, Republicans chose to side with the same billionaire donors who have spent billions of dollars bankrolling another Trump presidency.
Premiums are going up because the GOP decided not to act. And now, families are forced to choose between healthcare and housing, medicine and groceries.
These rising healthcare costs are not the result of market forces or unforeseen events. They are the outcome of Republicans choosing tax breaks for billionaires over keeping healthcare more affordable for working people. Every missed payment and every lost policy is a direct result of those choices.
This is what their agenda looks like in action. Break the programs working families rely on, then claim they are too expensive to fix while billionaires continue to cash in.
Tell Congress to prevent these devastating insurance premium hikes and protect millions from losing coverage by immediately renewing the enhanced ACA premium tax credits.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for affordable healthcare and tax fairness.
