![]() Davis just wrapped up his first week of kindergarten, and it truly felt like a full circle moment. Growing up, I went to JeffCo public schools as an at-risk youth. And to be completely frank, I very well could have fallen through the cracks. But because I lived in a community that valued public education, I had teachers who believed in me — who gave me the tools I needed to build a better life. Now, as a mom, I’ll never stop fighting to make sure every kid across Colorado has that same chance to succeed.
This shouldn’t be a controversial issue. We all know that a great education can make all the difference in a child’s life — because that’s exactly what happened to me. That’s why it’s so disappointing to watch Donald Trump and his far-right friends offer fewer and fewer resources to public schools, all while regular families are paying more to make up the difference. Backpacks, pencils, glue sticks, you name it — Trump’s reckless tariffs are forcing families to dig deeper and deeper into their savings just to send their kids to school with the supplies they need. At the same time, Trump’s Department of Education is blocking funds for after-school programs, mental health grants, and teacher training. As Davis and thousands of other kids across Colorado begin their public school journey, parents should have the confidence that the federal government is doing everything within its power to help our children succeed. But with every branch of government under total Republican control, that’s just not happening right now — and that’s why I need your help.
