John,
In response to Trump’s authoritarian takeover, we’re organizing for today and for our future.
This weekend, we’re wrapping up our summer Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship. With your support, we’ve trained 16 fellows ranging in age from 15 to 24 years old. This year’s cohort is 100% BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or people of color), 62.5% female, and 37.5% male.
By the end of this weekend, our youth fellows will have each completed 20 hours of field work and 30 hours of training and instruction from community leaders and experts in issue areas including environmental justice, education justice, the labor movement, knowing your rights, and criminal justice reform and the abolitionist movement. They’ve also been attending community meetings such as city council, school board, and board of police commissioners.
They’ll each receive a $1,000 stipend and they’ll move forward in their communities with skills on personal leadership, political and community organizing, and campaign communication. These young people are ready to make our world better.
After this weekend, we’ll prepare to launch our next big youth leadership program: our Youth Advisory Council, where we’re offering high school students an opportunity to work alongside me and other policymakers to create meaningful change.

Then could you donate to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today to power our work, including supporting the progressive candidates we need right now?
In addition to supporting future leaders, we’re endorsing and supporting candidates who are rooted in their community and fighting for equity. One of these candidates is people’s champion Detroit City Council candidate Denzel McCampbell, who came in first in his recent primary election!
Next year’s midterms will be important, but we can’t afford to wait another year to bring positive change to our communities—which are struggling under high prices and authoritarian threats right now.
Local elections are underway across the country, and we will keep contributing to progressives’ campaigns to grow our power.

Together, we are empowering people of all ages to fight for our communities and our rights.
In solidarity,
Rashida
