Twice the Catalogs = Twice the Inspiration

We’re excited to share a change to how we release our trip catalogs! Instead of sending a single trip catalog in December, featuring all of the trips for the following year, we will now be sending two catalogs each year: one in October, and another one in February. The October catalog will feature trips taking place in the first half of the following year (January through June), and the February catalog will showcase trips taking place July-December. Upcoming International itineraries will be included in both catalogs, regardless of trip start date. This change means you’ll get the scoop on winter and spring trips sooner, giving you plenty of time to plan! Concerned about the environmental impact of two catalogs? Don’t worry—each catalog will be half the size of
our old annual version, which means we’re not using more paper. We will also continue to use Sustana, the most eco-friendly paper on the market.

Leader Feature: Beth BittleFor Beth Bittle, leading Sierra Club National Outings isn’t just about guiding people through beautiful landscapes—it’s about transforming the way they connect with nature and each other. “I love sharing the places in nature that I enjoy going to,” she says. “Sometimes I’ve been to these spots over and over, but when I go with new people, it’s like I’m seeing them for the first time through their eyes.”

Her inspiration to lead came from her time as a Chapter Outings leader, where she witnessed firsthand how bringing people into the wild is one of the most powerful ways to defend it. “I truly believe one of the best ways for us to protect these places is to bring people into them,” she explains. “When people experience the beauty and fragility of these spaces, they become advocates for their preservation.”

Beth believes Sierra Club trips attract a special kind of traveler. “Our participants aren’t here just to check things off a list,” she explains. “They find beauty not only in the big, iconic sites like El Capitan, but in the small details too, like a banana slug in the redwoods.” And woven into every trip is a conversation about conservation; how to travel more sustainably, minimize our impact, and truly respect the places we visit.

For Beth, these moments of newfound joy and lasting connections are what make National Outings extraordinary. “It’s amazing how quickly a group can come together out here,” she says. “Nature has a way of bringing us home.”

Thank you, Beth, for your service with Sierra Club Outings!
