After hearing from some of our most committed supporters, we want to share where we go from here.

Hi-

The Trump administration's relentless attack on our gun safety progress, often at the behest of the gun lobby that put him in office, can feel overwhelming.

Recently, a core group of volunteers and supporters asked Everytown President John Feinblatt how we'll counter these assaults.

Read his responses below—and if you're with us, please support our mission with your first gift to the Action Fund today. Our best laid plans can only work when we have supporters like you fueling the fight.

Everytown for Gun Safety

How can we stop Trump's agenda and continue to make progress during his second administration?

Simply put, we've done this before—and won. The Trump administration and a Republican-led Congress pose serious threats. But this isn't new territory. During Trump's first term, Everytown helped defeat the NRA's top federal priority: Concealed Carry Reciprocity. We beat them then, and we're using that same playbook now.

We're also doubling down on the states.

The 2024 elections left the partisan makeup of most state legislatures intact, meaning states remain fertile ground for life-saving progress. Just this year, we've already helped pass:

  • A permit-to-purchase law for assault weapons in Colorado
  • Glock switch bans in Alabama, Tennessee, and New Mexico
  • Secure storage laws in Hawai'i, Michigan, and Utah
  • An assault weapons ban in Rhode Island

What can we do to change the deep-rooted culture around guns in America?

To reduce gun violence, we're shifting the culture—one conversation at a time. We have to reach gun owners with credible messengers and practical, lifesaving information.

We're doing that in a variety of ways, including partnering with social media influencers, gun owners, and law enforcement officers to spread the word about safe storage practices. The Everytown Support Fund is also working to train medical students at top institutions like Harvard, Morehouse, and Johns Hopkins to talk to patients about secure gun storage—just like they do with seat belts or smoking.

What is Everytown doing to hold bad actor gun dealers and gun manufacturers accountable for their role in the gun violence crisis?

We're also holding social media companies like YouTube and Reddit accountable for making America's gun violence crisis even worse by poisoning potential mass shooters with dangerous gun content.

Where do we go from here?

We get creative. We seize every opportunity. And we keep proving that progress is possible—even under the toughest political conditions.
