Dear John,

URGENT: Don’t let Trump poison this pristine home to the world’s largest wild salmon fishery.

Donate today and your gift will be MATCHED dollar-for-dollar!

I was born and raised salmon fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska, the site of the world’s largest salmon run -- and now the proposed spot for an environmental disaster in the making: Pebble Mine. Please rush a donation of $27 or more to Friends of the Earth today and block the disastrous Pebble Mine.

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is set to decide on whether to grant the dangerous Pebble Mine a permit.

If built, the Pebble Mine would wipe out the region’s salmon and poison our waters with toxins like lead and arsenic. Local Indigenous communities like mine rely on salmon for our food, our way of life, and our livelihoods. That’s why we’ve been resisting this project for years, with the partnership of Friends of the Earth. And now we’re down to the final stretch.

Protect Bristol Bay’s ecosystem and people over mining industry profits: Donate now and your gift will be MATCHED dollar-for-dollar, up to $77,000.

As a member of the local Curyung Tribal Council and a senior oceans campaigner here at Friends of the Earth, I’ve been fighting Pebble Mine for years. With your support, we’ve helped mobilize millions of people to take action to block this dangerous project.

But despite recent messages from 30,000 Friends of the Earth Members to the EPA, earlier this month the EPA deeply disappointed us all.

Despite criticizing the USACE’s flawed and inadequate environmental review process, the EPA failed to elevate their concerns as authorized under the Clean Water Act -- our best chance and last shot before the final permit approval.

The EPA passed up a crucial chance to provide proper review and oversight of Pebble’s permit application, ignoring the demands of 80% of Bristol Bay residents and 85% of commercial fishermen in the area. They’re allowing the USACE to continue their botched process -- corrupted by millions of lobbying dollars spent for this disaster.

Soon, the USACE will finally decide on whether to grant the permit to build Pebble Mine. So we need all hands on deck.

If you donate in the next 36 hours, John, your gift will be DOUBLED, maximizing impact so we can stop this disaster.

We stopped this mine under the Obama administration, but the Trump administration reversed course.

Under this administration, the USACE has seemed to align with the CEO of the private corporation trying to build the mine -- who will get a $12.5 million bonus if the USACE permit comes on schedule.

Our Indigenous community and our wild salmon are worth more than mining industry profits. But let’s put it in terms even corporate polluters will understand: Our area’s salmon fishery also produces $1.5 billion in revenue, along with 14,000 jobs each year.

An approval of the permit would be absolutely devastating to all of us who call Bristol Bay our home, the commercial fisherfolk who travel here every year as their main source of income, and our precious ecosystem. We can’t let this go through.

Before it’s too late, help us block this catastrophic project: Rush a donation of $27 or more to Friends of the Earth today and your gift will be DOUBLED.
