Republicans are not only ignoring the threat of climate change, John. They’re actively making it worse.
The Trump Administration is planning to rescind a longstanding EPA scientific directive declaring that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare. That directive is the basis for safeguards that have helped keep our air and water clean and more investments in clean energy which have been creating jobs in rural communities and making our country more globally competitive with EVs and renewable energy.
Our elected leaders should share a commitment to protecting our planet — if we can’t promise future generations a liveable world, nothing else we do matters. This reckless action by the federal government is misguided at best and malicious at worst, and we can’t allow them to get away with it. Greenhouse gases are a main driver of climate change. The science is clear, and it shouldn’t be a matter up for political debate.
National Republicans claim they’re taking this step because taking climate change seriously could “bankrupt the country.” But that’s just not true.
During my time as Governor of North Carolina, we prioritized clean energy initiatives — and rather than harming our economy, our investment in the clean energy sector brought new businesses and good-paying jobs to our state.
That’s the kind of progress we need to see on a national scale, John, and I’m committed to helping create it as the next U.S. Senator from North Carolina. It starts by upholding the EPA rule and recognizing the truth that we all know: greenhouse gases cause climate change, and climate change is an existential threat to life as we know it.
I need you to join me and speak out against the Trump Administration’s dangerous anti-climate action. Sign on here to call on the federal government to leave the EPA rule in place >>>
Thanks for speaking out,
Roy Cooper
