Hello,
Before you read on, I want to let you know this email contains mentions of gun violence. Addressing the root cause of this violence is why I’m in Congress, and it’s why I understand if you can’t read today’s message.
John — Each time our communities are shaken by gun violence, we’re reminded that thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need action, and we need it now.
I’ve made it my mission in Congress to fight for common-sense reforms: universal background checks, red flag laws to keep firearms out of dangerous hands, and historic investments in school safety and mental health.
Recently, I introduced the School Violence Prevention Act to help eliminate the cycles of gun violence in our schools and communities. We can address the root causes of violence, but powerful interests — the gun lobby and their allies — are spending millions to block our progress.
This won’t stop me from doing everything in my power to end preventable tragedies. I carry the stories of families in CT-05 who have lost loved ones to preventable tragedies; their pain, and the strength they show, drive me every day. To keep advocating for lifesaving policies and invest in long-term safety, I need your help.
If you have room in your budget, please chip in to help us amplify the call to reduce harm and make every Connecticut community safer.
Thank you for everything.
In this fight together,
Jahana Hayes
