John, earlier today, a United Nations-backed report confirmed our worst fears: The people of Gaza are suffering from famine.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the global humanitarian authority on food crises, has reported that at least 1 in 5 households face starvation in much of Gaza.

Across Gaza, at least 132,000 children under 5 are at risk of dying from acute malnutrition, and acute malnutrition among children is projected to increase 2-4x over the next several weeks.

This latest devastating milestone means some parts of Gaza have reached the highest level of food insecurity possible — and more will reach famine levels in the coming weeks.

Malnutrition has reached catastrophic levels. More and more children are dying.

Families are being forcibly starved. Almost all humanitarian aid is still being blocked as children suffer.

It must stop now.

John, only a definitive ceasefire, full humanitarian access and a massive surge in aid can save children in Gaza.

We deliver lifesaving supplies and services safely and effectively in conflict zones around the world. But aid workers in Gaza are being blocked and attacked, and aid is being restricted and militarized.

Despite these enormous challenges, our staff are still showing up, working against the clock under dire conditions — to provide safe water, health services and more. But our supplies are running out due to restrictions on aid and our staff is exhausted and weakened as famine engulfs Gaza.

The children we support are going days without food and fainting due to lack of energy. Mothers at our mother and baby centers arrive exhausted and in desperate need of support. Families are scavenging for food in garbage dumps.

Now, more and more children have shared that they wish to be dead. One child shared, “I wish I was in heaven/paradise where my mother is, in heaven there is love and food and water.”

John, this man-made famine can be stopped. Israeli forces are using starvation as a weapon. We need a surge of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza and the safety and access to treat the most vulnerable children.

We’re urgently raising the same call we’ve been shouting for nearly two years:

Permanent ceasefire now.

Surge aid now.

Bring all hostages home now.

Thank you for the compassion you’ve shown for children in Gaza and around the world. Time is running out to save lives. There is no more waiting.
