90 years ago this month, when millions of working-class families were struggling under the weight of the Great Depression, our nation passed into law an unprecedented piece of legislation: the Social Security Act.

For nearly a century, Social Security has been one of the greatest tools to lift seniors and people with disabilities out of poverty. But right now, this life-saving program has never faced a more serious threat.

Today, seniors are struggling to afford their medications and keep a roof over their heads as Trump’s Big Bad Bill and reckless tariffs wreak havoc on families’ budgets.

With costs continuing to skyrocket, hard-earned benefits like Social Security are more important than ever. But Donald Trump doesn’t care. Instead, he’s dismantling the very workforce that administers Social Security benefits — delaying the checks our parents and grandparents rely on, and allowing their questions to go unanswered.

Our government should be protecting and expanding Social Security, not slashing and burning it to pay for billionaire tax cuts.

That’s why Brittany Pettersen proudly helped pass the Social Security Fairness Act last year to ensure teachers, firefighters, and other public workers receive the full benefits they’ve earned.
