General Newsletter From the Office of Senator Andy Kim

Happy Friday, New Jersey!

This week, Senator Kim traveled to South Korea and Japan on a Congressional Delegation visit (also known as a “CODEL”) along with Senator Duckworth.

South Korea and Japan are critical allies of the United States when it comes to trade, security, and strategic partnerships. While abroad, the Senator met with government and industry leaders to talk about ways we can continue to strengthen the partnerships between our nations. Read on to learn more.

Working for New Jersey:

FIGHTING TO LOWER PRICES:

It’s no secret that costs are already too damn high. Yet, Republicans voted to raise costs on American families even more in order to give tax breaks to their wealthy and well-connected billionaire friends.

In New Jersey, we know rising prices are hitting families where it hurts the most, limiting access to safe and affordable food, power, and shelter.

Here are just 3 impacts we are already seeing:

  • $400/year in increased energy costs for American families.
  • $1,000/year in increased mortgage costs for American families.
  • 86% of Americans stressed about the cost of groceries.

HIGHLIGHTING YOUR STORIES ABOUT RISING GROCERY COSTS:

Last week, we asked how rising grocery store prices were affecting you and your families. Many of you were generous enough to share your story with us, highlighting the devastating impact Trump’s tariffs and cuts to food assistance have had on your ability to prioritize safe, healthy eating, and put food on the table for you and your families.

“I am using my life savings to pay my bills” said Abby from Monmouth Junction, NJ, “the rising cost of food is a terrible burden.”

Hallie from Oakhurst, NJ shared, “We probably don’t support local businesses in NJ the way we used to because grocery prices are so high.”

Thank you to all who shared their stories. We’ll continue to uplift your experiences and fight for you.

Working for you at the Capitol:

STRENGTHENING OUR ALLIANCE WITH SOUTH KOREA:

Senator Kim spent the first half of the week in Seoul meeting with government and industry leaders on the importance of the U.S.-ROK alliance.

Meeting with President Lee

In Seoul, Senator Kim spoke with President Lee about opportunities to deepen economic growth between our two nations and collaborate on emerging technologies like AI, biotech, and clean energy.

That opportunity for economic growth is enabled by our security alliance with South Korea, and it’s one that the Senator is committed to protecting and enhancing in increasingly challenging times.

As the first Korean American Senator representing the third largest Korean-born population in the U.S., Senator Kim is dedicated to strengthening the relationships that will help New Jersey grow and be a leader in innovation for generations to come.

Meeting with the National Assembly
In Seoul, Senator Kim also met with members of the National Assembly to discuss the importance of the U.S.-ROK alliance, as well as ways to continue strengthening the trilateral relationship among the United States, South Korea, and Japan.

Our partnership with South Korea is critical to the stability of the Indo-Pacific and the economic growth opportunities that exist for our nations.
