The One Big Beautiful Bill is the law of the land, and with it comes billions in savings that Americans deserve and have long demanded. In previous weeks, I’ve shared information with you from the House Ways and Means Committee and House Energy and Commerce Committee about the real, positive impact that the One Big Beautiful Bill will make in the lives of the American people. Today, I’ll continue highlighting the facts. We’re now turning to information from the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, of which I am a member.
The provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill that come from the Committee save taxpayers north of $250 billion and serve as the first set of substantive conservative reforms across higher education in decades. There are many more to come. There are three important wins you should know about that the Committee helped secure in the One Big Beautiful Bill:
- It FIXES the nation’s broken student loan system by condensing repayment options and targeting assistance to struggling borrowers while limiting subsidies for wealthy borrowers who don’t need them.
- It EXPANDS eligibility to the Pell Grant program to reduce costs for low-and-middle-income students enrolling in high-quality-short-term credential programs aligned with the needs of America’s employers.
- It ENDS uncapped lending through the inflationary Grad PLUS loan program to increase simplicity and drive down tuition costs so students are not saddled with excessive debt that they can never repay.
By including commonsense, conservative reforms to education in the One Big Beautiful Bill, Republicans in Congress have secured even more savings – and wins – for American workers, families, students, and job creators. The nation is on a better path, on many fronts, because of our work.
ICYMI: Social Security’s 90th Anniversary
In case you missed it, the Social Security Administration (SSA) celebrated its 90th anniversary late last week. As President Trump and Republicans in the House and Senate have promised – and delivered upon – this vital program continues to be protected and strengthened for every eligible American. From customer service to technology, efficiency to creating greater value, we’re continuing our work to ensure that this program continues its legacy of serving the American people who have paid into it. I also highly encourage you to take this opportunity read up on common scams that target social security so that you can stay informed.
A Piece of American History
North Carolina’s 5th District has some important history as it relates to the Revolutionary War. The famous battle of Guilford Courthouse occurred close to where the city of Greensboro is currently located. Here, the Continental Army, led by Major General Nathanael Greene – the most trusted subordinate of George Washington – faced British General Charles Lord Cornwallis and his troops. Nathanael Greene was a true patriot, and it's fitting that the city of Greensboro is named after him. The battle of Guilford Courthouse was a notable turning point in the Revolutionary War and a harbinger of the importance that the city of Greensboro holds to this very day.
