Anonymous, Trees older than America itself could fall to be turned into doorjambs, crown molding or piano sounding boards.1 The Trump administration is poised to remove protections from the Tongass National Forest, our largest remaining intact temperate rainforest. We want to pull out all the stops to save the Tongass from destruction, but we need your support. Will you donate to Environment Colorado's 2020 Fiscal Year-End Drive today to keep our work going in the year to come? When you do, your donation will be MATCHED up to $25,000 nationwide. The Tongass -- dense old-growth trees covering a group of Alaskan islands, home to the largest population of nesting bald eagles, glaciers of thick ice, rivers filled with five species of Pacific salmon, fjords and caves that shelter wolves and blacktail deer -- is unlike any other place in the world. And thanks to the work of Environment Colorado and our national network, it's been protected by the Roadless Rule since 2001.2 Our national network played a major role in establishing the 2001 Roadless Rule, organizing citizens across the country to urge the U.S. Forest Service to adopt the strongest possible policy. People ultimately submitted 1.6 million public comments, nearly 95 percent of them in favor of full protection. Nearly half of these comments -- 700,000 in all -- were a direct result of our network's grassroots organizing. Each time the Roadless Rule -- and the forest lands it protects -- has come under threat, Environment Colorado and our national network have stepped up to defend the Tongass and the Roadless Rule. Make your matched donation today. The Trump administration may be poised to exempt the Tongass from the Roadless Rule, but we still have another tool: the Roadless Area Conservation Act. This legislation would codify the Roadless Rule into law, permanently protecting nearly 60 million acres. We're generating public support to get this bill through Congress and urging our legislators to support the legislation. We're ready to do everything it takes to save the Tongass with the Roadless Area Conservation Act. But we need your support. Thanks for making it all possible, Hannah Collazo |
