Hi John,
Another month has passed during these extraordinary times with every day giving us a glimpse of life beyond lockdown. A lot has been happening and I just wanted to start with a thank you for standing with us both now and in the future, as none of this would be possible without you. Please read on and take a look at some of the things that you may have missed.
In celebration of World Oceans Day this month, we’re giving you free access to Javier Bardem’s stunning documentary ‘Sanctuary’ - it follows Javier’s journey with Greenpeace to Antarctica in 2018. It’s a beautiful film, and an incredible showcase of the campaigning work we are able to do because of your amazing support. But it also highlights why our oceans need protection.
We hope it offers an outlet to the great expanse of the natural world that you might be missing at the moment. Grab your popcorn and sit back and enjoy the beauty of this film - feel free to share this link to the film with your friends and family!
We stand in solidarity with those fighting against deep rooted racism across the world, demanding justice on the streets and calling for accountability following the murder of George Floyd and the loss of many other black lives. Over recent weeks we have been speaking out, promoting black environmental activism and giving support across our social media channels and website. If you're looking for ways to get involved our colleagues at GPUS put together a Toolkit: Take action to defend Black Lives.
We recognise, as numerous studies have shown, that minority communities are disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental pollution. The mainstream environmental movement has been too slow to expose this link. When lives are being lost to systemic racism we must speak out against it, we must not be silent.
Climate change is already impacting people’s lives, but those effects are not being felt equally around the world. To find out more as to how we are working for climate justice and the people it oppresses read these blogs.
And at Greenpeace UK we’ve made four commitments to improve the way we work on these issues.
Join us on the 30th of June where we are coming together for a virtual lobby, inviting you, and thousands of others to ask MPs to put people, climate and nature at the heart of our nation’s recovery.
You may be thinking ‘why should I get involved?’ With the UK at a turning point with the current health, climate and nature crisis you could be a part of history. Last year, 12,000 people went to Westminster to speak to their MPs. The very next day, Theresa May’s Government passed the net zero legislation to legally bind the UK to a carbon neutral target by 2050. Calling for action is more important than ever and this year we have an opportunity to make another big impact!
Join this event to have a virtual cup of tea with your MP on Tuesday 30 June and tell them that #TheTimeIsNow to put a healthy, greener, fairer future at the heart of plans to rebuild from the coronavirus crisis.
Last weekend, our team behind the Greenpeace Field at Glastonbury Festival, brought people together through an amazing festival of online music, art, cook-alongs and story-telling.
If you missed it, don’t worry! You can catch all the performances and have that well-deserved boogie to try and help fill that festival-sized void that we are all going to miss this summer.
The festival's theme was all about how we can build a fairer, cleaner and more resilient world after the coronavirus crisis. With performances from Aurora, Arlo Parks, Bastille, Beardyman, Melt Yourself Down and many, many more - it’s really worth a catch up!
Throughout June we have been running an exciting new programme called Speaker Shorts. And the last of these free 15 minute talks followed by an interactive Q&A is happening today. Tune in to hear from Christopher and Shirley, who are members of our Greenpeace Speakers network, as they talk about how you can help save the rainforest. It’s one of our ‘Family Friendly’ sessions so it’s suitable for the kids as well.
Gifts left in Wills play a vital role in our work all over the world. These special gifts pay for 1 in 6 Greenpeace campaigns and so much of what we do is possible because of this support.
Last year, a group of supporters were invited on board one of our ships, the Rainbow Warrior, as a way of saying thank you for over 25 years of support and for pledging a gift to Greenpeace in their Will. Enjoy this short, heartwarming video of their day.

Through Greenpeace investigations - that are only made possible thanks to your support - we discovered that supertrawlers; huge industrial fishing boats over 100m long, spent 123 days fishing in UK Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in 2019.
These massive industrial ships catch hundreds of tonnes of fish every day and it has only got worse through the pandemic. They shouldn’t be operating in areas meant to be ocean sanctuaries, which are there to protect vulnerable ecosystems and iconic wildlife like dolphins and porpoises.
It's time to put an end to this. Call on the government to protect the UK’s waters and support local fishing communities by joining the 210,000 supporters who have signed the petition.
Last month, Unearthed (Greenpeace’s investigative journalism team) revealed that a powerful US agricultural lobby group is working with allies in Congress to rip up the UK’s food hygiene standards.
If their plan succeeds, this would mean a trade deal with the US that allows food that is currently forbidden like poorly-produced American beef, pumped full of hormones so it grows quicker, and chlorine-washed chicken into the country.
Find out more about how Trump is trying to rewrite our rulebook and support the 340,000 people who have told the UK government that we need a food system that respects animals and restores nature by signing the petition.
Remember, we want to stay connected with you; whether you have a question about Greenpeace's work or your support, we're here to help. My team is available to call on 0330 335 3632 Monday – Friday, 9am – 5.30pm, or feel free to email any questions you may have to [email protected].
From all of us at Greenpeace, stay safe and be well.

PS. Lockdown has given us a glimpse of what a green transport system might look like and because of this people are looking into new cleaner ways of travel, like cycling. If you’re wondering how to buy the right bike, how to cycle safely on the road, or what to wear for cycling, you’re in the right place. Check out our beginner’s guide to city cycling. |
We don't accept any money from companies or governments so we can be independent and challenge anyone who threatens the planet or peace. To help us keep fighting climate change, defending our oceans and protecting ancient forests, you can become a monthly supporter today. Thank you!
