GPs paid nearly twice as much for abortion as for pregnancy care

The Government pays GPs €260 to care for mother and baby throughout pregnancy and after birth (involving 8-9 visits).

But to end a baby’s life in abortion, the Government pays GPs nearly twice as much - €450 (involving 2-3 visits).

It makes plain where the Government’s priorities lie, and why things must be different. Under the present arrangement, doctors are being offered financial

incentives to perform abortions. There’s no other way to view it.

In a recent reply to a Parliamentary Question, it was confirmed that the fees paid to doctors under the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme have not changed since 2013. The decision to reward GPs with €450 for every abortion carried out was approved prior to the abortion law taking effect.

Taxpayers’ also fund the abortion pills used to end each unborn baby’s life as the doctors who carry out the abortions are not required to shoulder the cost.

Ireland’s rising abortion figures will not begin to fall until the Government recognises the need for change and redirects its focus from constant promotion of abortion toward a clear, determined effort to bring the numbers down.

Remembering the remarkable life of Sr. Dr. Miriam Duggan

Irish nun Sr. Dr. Miriam Duggan, who died on 9th August, represented the very best of the Irish missionary spirit, devoting her entire life to society’s most vulnerable and forgotten people, and using her considerable skill, intellect, and compassion to deliver the highest standard of medical care to those most in need.

As a qualified medical doctor, surgeon and gynecologist, she worked for many years in Uganda and Kenya saving lives and helping mothers during and after pregnancy. She trained countless doctors to provide similar high quality care. Among other things, she also played a pivotal role over the years in treating and caring for people with HIV and related illnesses.

A remarkable and courageous woman, Sr Miriam never shied away from making her views known in the media. Her unwavering pro-life witness was marked by credibility and conviction, as she tirelessly urged governments to focus on strengthening maternal healthcare instead of advancing abortion.

During her life, she also served as a Regional leader and Congregational Leader of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa (FMSA).

A proud native of Limerick, Sr Miriam passed away in Mount Oliver Convent, Dundalk, Co Louth. We extend our sincere condolences to all her Sisters in the FMSA, her family and friends, particularly those whose lives she touched in Uganda and Kenya.

Tiny twins in Scotland defy odds thanks to innovative neonatal cot

Against all odds, 29-week premature twins are thriving after receiving vital support from a twin cot.

Right to Life UK reports that Marcus and Macie Lee, from Glasgow, were delivered early after their mother, Jennifer Prior, developed pregnancy complications at 20 weeks. Doctors feared the babies would be stillborn, but Marcus arrived weighing only 1lb 3oz and Macie 2lb. Both spent ten weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Glasgow Children’s Hospital before going home after three months.

“As time went on they thrived more and more with very little complication,” Jennifer said. “Being told the worst was likely to happen… then for the complete opposite, felt like a miracle. I’ll never forget the feeling of thinking I wouldn’t leave without my babies. I was there day and night… hoping someone would give me some hope and confirmation they would survive.”
