John,
We've all heard them. The excuses that keep people on the sidelines while extremists organize and mobilize. These popular political myths convince Democrats to sit out elections and assume someone else will do the work.
Meanwhile, the GOP never takes a break . They are showing up to every school board meeting, funding every race, and voting in every election, especially the small ones most people ignore.
But today, we’re busting these political myths to motivate you, John, and your friends:
Myth #1: Local elections don’t matter
Reality: School boards, town councils, and state legislatures decide the policies that shape our community. From education funding to transportation to housing, every vote counts.
Myth #2: My $10 donation doesn’t make a difference
Reality: Small contributions fuel grassroots campaigns, pay for outreach, and amplify voices that otherwise go unheard. Municipal races can be decided by fewer than 50 votes, and every dollar makes a difference. [[link removed]]
Myth #3: Connecticut is safely ‘blue’
Reality: Elections are never guaranteed, and complacency is where we lose the progress we are working hard to make! And although we have a majority in our federal and statewide delegations, we have more Republican mayors than we do Democratic mayors.
Myth #4: It can wait until election day
Reality: Most of the hard campaign work happens months before the election. Early support helps register voters, recruit candidates, and build the infrastructure needed to win.
Don’t let these myths stop you from making an impact.
Connecticut Democrats are fighting for immigrant protections, healthcare access, education funding, and so much more, but we need you in the fight with us, to keep making progress.
Sincerely,
Sarah Locke
Executive Director
