In case you missed it, Republican Party of NM Chair Amy Barela and Executive Director Leticia Muñoz harassed Mimi’s Cafe staff at a recent political event, got them fired, then bragged about it on Facebook. Check out their post here.

A video taken by NM GOP Chair Amy Barela posted to the party’s Facebook shows Executive Director Leticia Muñoz antagonizing Mimi’s Cafe staff. The original post even seems to indicate that the NM GOP called the Albuquerque Police Department even though they started the incident. In their bizarre post, the Republican Party was elated to be rewarded with gift certificates for instigating the confrontation. NM GOP Chair Amy Barela shared the post on her own Facebook page and even made fun of one of the employees in the comments.

As the most recent jobs report showed – The Republican Party is already making it harder to find a job, and now Amy Barela and Leticia Muñoz seem to be thrilled to be personally responsible that two more New Mexicans are losing their jobs thanks to the GOP. 

The Republican Party of New Mexico should be ashamed of themselves – it’s sick and immature to delight in working people losing their jobs and then brag about it in opportunistic social media posts. But our estimation of the character of the Republican Party of New Mexico is already through the floor – with a straight face they defend Trump being in the Epstein files, tell us rural hospitals closing because of the Big Beautiful Bill is a good thing, and even flat out lie and say prices are going down.

According to several Reddit posts, the NM GOP crowd were rude customers, being difficult and combative with only a handful out of their group ordering anything. Two individuals DPNM spoke to who were in attendance at the event refute RPNM’s claims and told us that the altercation took place after the GOP event concluded, contrary to RPNM's claims. 

These are the people we’re dealing with. These are the remarkably tacky individuals we have to be prepared to go up against in upcoming elections. Barela and Muñoz are case and point examples of the leadership that has failed the Republican Party in New Mexico for years. 

However, we can’t rely on GOP ineptitude alone to keep NM blue. Statistics show that Republicans are gaining ground in voter registration in New Mexico. We have to be prepared to run the voter outreach operations that it will take to ensure victory up and down the ballot in New Mexico.

As if New Mexicans needed another example of how Republicans are hellbent on pushing people from their jobs and could care less about the working class, their immature behavior at Mimi’s Cafe and subsequent childish Facebook posts should leave no doubt.
