John, when it comes to Donald Trump militarizing our nation’s capitol, I’ll tell you exactly what I told CNN:

John, let’s look at the actual facts.

Crime in DC is going down. Gun violence in this country is going down. But people still say they don’t feel safe.

What no one’s ever told Trump is that two things can be true: We can be improving and still have work to do. But what we can’t do is say that our choice is to either ignore people’s fear or turn DC into a police state.

We know what actually makes people safer. But Trump is gutting laws like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. He shuttered the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. And he’s firing anyone who speaks the truth.

I’m telling you this because facts matter, and it’s going to take all of us to fight for solutions that are actually based in truth.

No matter how many unnecessary tanks block my path, I’ll keep walking into my office every day and insisting on real solutions. But I need you with me to prove that the power of the people is greater than these liars in power.
