Outrage in Texas.
Yesterday, Republicans in the Texas House approved new congressional maps that wipe out five Democratic seats in the U.S. House. They pushed it through along strict party lines, dismantling diverse Democratic strongholds and deliberately silencing voters of color. Their goal could not be clearer: to lock in power so they can force through an extreme agenda that will continue to cause harm to the vast majority of Americans.
This wasn’t about fairness. It wasn’t about representation. It was about paving the way for Trump and his allies to continue imposing their radical Project 2025 blueprint – gutting reproductive freedom, erasing protections for LGBTQ+ people, undermining public education, stripping away voting rights, and more.
Democrats in the Texas legislature fought back. They walked out for two weeks. They rallied the nation’s attention. But the Republican majority forced their gerrymander through anyway, setting the stage for Governor Abbott to sign it into law.
Now the fight is national – and it requires all of us.

We normally oppose gerrymandering, full stop. But we cannot and will not sit on the sidelines while Republicans unilaterally redraw the lines to rig elections in their favor.
