Local Legislators Call On Port Authority to Implement Emergency Low-income Fare Program

Low-income essential workers keep us all moving. Now we have to keep them moving with an emergency low-income fare program for Allegheny County.

Enormous shoutout to the 19+ City, County, and State elected leaders led by Bethany Hallam, At-large Allegheny County Council-member, who've called for Port Authority to implement an emergency low-income fare program. Everyone deserves to access food, healthcare and jobs, and particularly our Black, Brown and low-income communities that have been hardest hit by the economic and health consequences of the pandemic. PPT’s Mask Distros Inspire Transit Rider Action Across the County

We’re excited that the national public transit think-tank, TransitCenter, choose to profile how Pittsburghers for Public Transit members alongside sister transit rider unions in San Francisco and Durham, NC. PPT was able to fundraise over $4,000 for this cause in one day, purchase more than 1000 masks, mobilize almost 50 volunteers to hand them out at stops, and then organize over 100 people to join our Transit Justice Townhall! What a lift!

This work would not be possible without all of the dozens and dozens of members who shared their time and funds to make it happen. Thank you PPT Members! Thank you TransitCenter!
Defund the Police & Invest In Transportation for Black Communities! 80+ Orgs, Unions, and Electeds across PA call on PennDOT to Act

Over the past seven years, the State Police have siphoned billions of dollars from PA's Motor License Fund - annually, thats nearly twice as much money as the Turnpike funding that is allocated to mass transit. Led by PPT and the Philly Transit Riders union, this is the start of a rider-led statewide campaign for a dedicated, stable, and expanded source of transit funding.
