This back to school season, help put important tools in the hands of self-advocates when you learn with our guest speaker series!
There is still time to grab tickets to our second session: Anti-Fatness and Ableism presented by Stephenie Baldassarre before it goes live on Thursday, August 28th at 4:00 PM EST!
In this session, Stephenie Baldassare will talk about the ways anti-fatness and ableism are deeply connected even though they show up differently. Anti-fatness is the word for the ways in which fat people are discriminated against because of their weight. Both anti-fatness and ableism are rooted in harmful ideas about which bodies are ‘normal,’ valuable, or worthy of respect. In this presentation, we’ll learn a bit about how anti-fatness and ableism overlap and affect people’s everyday lives—from doctor’s offices to sidewalks—and why it’s so important to address them together. Get your tickets today!
This year’s speaker series will end with Understanding Fascist Disability Policy presented by Esther Warwick. This session will look at white nationalism’s ableist ideas and how they influence disability policy issues, and dive into what we can do to fight back. On Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 4:00 pm join us for Esther Warwick’s session. Buy your tickets for this session here, or, if you want to catch both sessions and get a temporary recording of Dr. Destiny Huff’s session, Black, Brown, and Disabled: Unpacking Racialized Ableism in Education, you can purchase the bundle ticket for all three sessions here.
We know everyone can support the community at different levels, which is why all of our tickets have sliding scale options. Purchase a ticket to one event at either the full donation price of $25 or the sliding scale price of $15, or buy the bundle for either $60 or $30.
When you purchase a ticket to our speaker series, you not only get to expand your knowledge, you empower self-advocates by making ASAN’s work possible.
