Dear John,
Today is the last day the sun sets after 8:00 PM until next spring. It’s hard to believe that we’re almost through the “dog days of summer,” but we’ve stayed busy all summer long.
Here’s a look at what our talented staff of over 800 public servants have been up to this month:
Win for workers: In a groundbreaking agreement, our Office reached a $3 million settlement for prevailing wages owed to workers hired to clean and disinfect subway cars during the Covid-19 pandemic. I am so proud of our Bureau of Labor Law [[link removed]] team for winning this settlement on behalf of 450 mostly immigrant workers [[link removed]] who risked their safety for ours.
Supporting our immigrant neighbors: This week, we had the opportunity to drop by The Door [[link removed]] —a drop-in clinic offering health care, legal services, and more to unhoused young people, including many immigrant youth. I was grateful to learn more about their important work as we stand together and fight Trump's deportation agenda.

Honoring Dominican New Yorkers: Last week, I celebrated New York City's Dominican community by marching (and dancing!) in the country's largest Dominican Day Parade. Shoutout to Harlem Samba [[link removed]] for providing the rhythm down the parade route.

Standing with delivery workers: With the swipe of a pen last week, Mayor Adams vetoed [[link removed]] a set of bills that would establish minimum pay rules for thousands of Instacart delivery workers. I called him out [[link removed]] for siding with deep-pocketed corporate interests, eroding pay protections, and criminalizing small businesses. Meanwhile, Instacart's astroturf campaign is spreading lies about these bills to distract the public as it rips off customers and workers. New Yorkers aren't falling for it.
A better budget: At the annual meeting of the New York State Financial Control Board (CFB), I was proud to present my analysis [[link removed]] of the New York City’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Adopted Budget [[link removed]] . Today, the biggest threat to our economy comes from the Trump Administration's fiscal policies. Meanwhile, instead of planning for uncertainty, Mayor Adams has continued to underbudget and has failed to make a deposit into the Rainy Day fund or increase the general reserve. We cannot let short-term thinking compromise long-term stability.
Pool Party Summer: The weather has been chillier lately (how about this rain?) but if you still need to cool off, the great news is that the Red Hook Pool is finally open [[link removed]] after weeks of closure. The neighborhood should not have been left without a cooling option in the height of summer, but now residents can dive into the fun. Grateful to the Parks Department [[link removed]] for making it happen!
NO to ICE: For weeks, 26 Federal Plaza has been a site of human rights abuse as ICE uses the 10th floor as an inhumane de facto jail. Together with the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), doctors, and activists, we rallied outside [[link removed]] to demand medical access, release for all detainees, and an end to Trump's mass cruelty. I also attended immigration court as a witness again, continuing to share about [[link removed]] the ICE abductions I witnessed, and encouraging all New Yorkers to do the same.

Let’s be clear. The ICE officers at 26 Federal Plaza hate it when I show up for court observation. But here’s my good-faith offer: If they’ll stop abducting people, I’ll never come again.
More soon,
Brad
