Dear John,
In my 60-plus years in and around politics, I’ve never seen more incompetent and unprincipled people in high positions than the brainless lapdogs filling the Trump administration.
There’s the towering ineptitude of Trump Cabinet picks like Pete Hegseth and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the flagrant cruelty of Trump assistants such as Stephen Miller, and the wild negligence of political hacks like E.J. Antoni, who Trump just nominated to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
These people could never succeed on their own merits. They are also the reason Trump will fail.
Because leaders who cannot tell the difference between a groveling toady and a knowledgeable adviser inevitably make grave mistakes, and eventually those mistakes lead to their downfall.
It’s our job to accelerate Trump’s undoing by alerting the public about how he’s screwing them over to enrich himself — and it’s working.
Our recent videos have moved Trump supporters by as much as SIXTEEN points, and our latest videos are even shifting the opinions of young men who listen to Joe Rogan and other “manosphere” podcasters — at a degree that the research firm we work with says it’s never seen before.
Now we need your help to get these super-effective videos out to the broadest possible audience. Will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media to help educate the public and stop Donald Trump's authoritarian takeover?
History is strewn with the wreckage of dictators who have attracted and promoted incompetent lapdogs lacking talent or integrity. As Hannah Arendt explained in her classic The Origins of Totalitarianism:
Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty.
Leaders who value loyalty above all else find themselves surrounded by sycophantic crackpots and fools who will not provide leaders objective or useful feedback about their actions — no warnings beforehand and no criticism afterward. All they get are butt-kissing commendations — “Wonderful idea, sir!” “Brilliant execution, sir!”
These cocoons of flattery seal off such leaders from the real-world consequences of what they do, driving them into serious misjudgments that, over time, bring about their ruin.
It’s the path on which Trump now treads.
Together we can defeat Trump and Trump-ism, and I truly believe that there’s no better place you can donate your money than to Inequality Media. The incredibly talented team of writers, artists, producers, and policy experts on our staff have mastered the art of making clear, compelling posts and videos go viral.
But we rely on your donations for everything we do, and with democracy hanging by a thread, we need to ramp up our efforts right now. Will you make a monthly donation to Inequality Media to help educate the public and stop Donald Trump's authoritarian takeover?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
