Dear John,
This week, we mark the anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. It was a historic step forward, but it was not the full story.
As a Black woman, I know that it took decades more of struggle, organizing, and courage before women like me could exercise that same right without barriers. And still today, voting rights are under attack across our country. From restrictive ID laws to Donald Trump’s pledge to eliminate vote by mail, the right to vote is being chipped away.
Here in Delaware, Democrats are committed to protecting and expanding access to the ballot box. That’s why we have introduced two constitutional amendments: SB2 [[link removed]] , to guarantee early voting, and SB3 [[link removed]] , to provide no-excuse absentee voting for every Delawarean. Our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard, and every vote is counted.
The best way we can honor the suffragists, civil rights leaders, and grassroots organizers who came before us is to carry their fight forward. Together, we will stand up against voter suppression and ensure that every Delawarean has the freedom to participate in our democracy.
Thank you for being a part of this ongoing work.
In solidarity,
Evelyn Brady
