President's Message

As school nurses, we understand that supporting students with chronic conditions extends beyond physical health, and that students with chronic physical or mental health issues often miss more school days. NASN is pleased to provide the Mental Health Toolkit for School Nurses Caring for Students with Epilepsy: Application to Practice, offering evidence-based resources and practical strategies to support students with epilepsy and related mental health needs.

This free webinar guides you through the toolkit, screening tools, and guidance for developing student-specific Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs). You will earn 1.0 Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) contact hours while gaining a clearer understanding of the core components of mental health assessment for these students and common epilepsy syndromes with their associated comorbidities.

We are uniquely positioned to support the whole child. This webinar and toolkit prepare you with the knowledge and confidence needed to address both the physical and mental health needs of students with epilepsy, improving their chances of regular school attendance, achieving academic success, and thriving as healthy adults.

Managing Chronic Health Conditions

Education, Advocacy, Awareness, and Support for Individuals Affected by Obesity

Childhood obesity is a significant public health concern that affects millions of children across the United States. Beyond the physical health implications, children with obesity often face weight bias and stigma, leading to emotional distress, social isolation, and academic challenges. School nurses are uniquely positioned to address these issues, serving as advocates and educators within the school community.

Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by obesity through education, advocacy, and support. The OAC is the first organization of its kind and the nation's leading voice representing those impacted by obesity. Learn more about their work and resources.
