Hi John,
When I first heard about the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act, I knew we were in for trouble as a country. The extreme right-wing agenda was all over this thing, and the public had no idea what was in it.
Here’s the deal: this GOP scheme jammed all federal funding into one giant bill — and in the process, made it harder to protect critical investments our families and communities desperately need. We’re talking about:
- Funding our public schools, which already face overcrowded classrooms and teacher shortages
- Transit and infrastructure upgrades we’ve been fighting for for years
- Community health centers and veteran clinics that serve thousands of families
- Local grants that keep arts programs, housing initiatives, and small businesses afloat
These investments are now being held hostage to extreme politics — with little room for public input or bipartisan negotiation. As you know, I voted against the bill — and I'll keep fighting (loudly) to undo the damage it causes.
If you believe our communities deserve better than backroom, extremist budget deals, I hope you’ll consider letting me know how you feel.
Click here to share your thoughts with me about this bill. Have you already seen the negative effects? What are you worried about? I want to know.
Thanks for reading and for always standing with me.
— Mary Gay
P.S. Earlier this week, I introduced the Foster Youth Mentoring Act in Congress, a bipartisan bill to expand mentoring programs for kids in foster care. While we push back on harmful bills like the one that just passed, I’m still working every day to deliver real solutions that lift people up. Thanks again for being here.
