Folks, can I
tell you a story?

When I came out in college, I knew I was interested in a career in public
service, but I feared that I would have to face a serious choice between
pursuing the field of my dreams or living my authentic life openly.

After seeing others in the LGBTQ+ community demonstrate acts of courage by
coming out, being themselves, and being public about who they are and who
they love, I came to realize that I could do both:

I could run for office and be honest about who I am — so that’s exactly
what I did.

When I became the first openly gay Senator elected in our nation’s
history, I understood that I needed to use this extraordinary opportunity
to make a difference in people's lives. From lowering prescription drug
prices to protecting same-sex marriage through the Respect for Marriage
Act, I’ve worked hard every day since to do just that.

But I didn’t run to make history, I ran to make a difference. And folks
like you supported me because you wanted to make a difference, too.

to make a difference by making a grassroots donation today?

In 2015, the Obergefell decision made marriage equality the law of the
land. In 2022, I was proud to pass my Respect for Marriage Act to protect
the rights and freedoms of millions of LGBTQ+ couples.

As Trump and his administration pull every lever to undo the progress
we’ve made toward equality, I’ll never stop fighting to create a more
accepting and equal country that lives up to the ideals of our nation.

The LGBTQ+ community is facing an onslaught of concerning attacks. The
Supreme Court was asked to overturn Obergefell, and in 2025 alone, 604
anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the country.

From pulling over $800 million in research on LGBTQ+ health care, to
targeting universities that refuse to discriminate against transgender
athletes, to scrubbing mere mentions of the word “gay” from federal
websites — this administration’s attacks are meant to intimidate a
community that’s only asked for true equality.

It’s going to take all of us to counter these extreme attacks so everyone
grows up knowing they belong, and that kindness and inclusion — not hatred
and division — are American values.

fight for a more equal future, and to help me support democratic
candidates who will do the same. Please chip in:
