Dear movement partners & community leaders:
We are writing to share some important news from Adhikaar. After a year with a Co-Executive Director leadership model, Adhikaar is transitioning back to a sole Executive Director. The complexities of the times we are facing are among the reasons we are making this shift, which will help Adhikaar continue to be nimble as we advance our work.
We are excited to immediately welcome Mamta Gurung Nyangmi as Interim Executive Director. Many of you know Mamta. She is a former Adhikaar Board member with over two decades of experience working across the non-profit sector in the US including at the Asian American Federation and Chhaya, and in South Asia, and has been a longtime supporter of Adhikaar’s work. Particularly as we all navigate the increasingly complicated political landscape and disparate impacts on immigrants, women, and low-wage workers – who are at the heart of Adhikaar’s work – we are grateful for the experience Mamta will bring.
As a bittersweet part of this transition, Narbada Chhetri and Cynthia Saxena will be stepping down as Co-Executive Directors and will be leaving the organization at the end of August.
We thank both of them for their leadership this past year, and wish them well in their next chapter. We would like to especially recognize Narbada for her service and dedication to Adhikaar. Adhikaar is a workers’ center that serves as a second home for many members of our community, and Narbada has been a vital part of our organization for 18 years.
We know the transition will be difficult, but the Co-Executive Directors have helped build an organization that we hope will continue to be an anchor for our community for years to come. The vision and leadership of Adhikaar’s members will continue to shape all that we do. And we look forward to our continued partnership with you.

हामी तपाईंहरूसमक्ष अधिकारको केही महत्त्वपूर्ण खबरहरू बाँड्नको लागि आएका छौं। एक वर्षसम्म दुई जना सह-कार्यकारी निर्देशकको नेतृत्व मोडलमा काम गरेपछि, अधिकार (Adhikaar) पुनः एकजना मात्र कार्यकारी निर्देशकको नेतृत्वमा फर्कने निर्णयमा पुगेको छ। हामीले अहिले सामना गरिरहेका समयको जटिल परिस्थितिहरूलाई मध्यनजर गर्दै यो परिवर्तन गरिएको हो, जसले हामीलाई हाम्रो काम अगाडि बढाउन थप चुस्त र सशक्त बनाउनेछ।
हामी तुरुन्तै ममता गुरुङ न्याङमीलाई अन्तरिम कार्यकारी निर्देशकको रूपमा स्वागत गर्न पाउँदा अत्यन्तै खुसी छौं। तपाईंहरूमध्ये धेरैले ममतालाई चिन्नुहुन्छ। उहाँ अधिकारकी पूर्व बोर्ड सदस्य हुनुहुन्छ र उहाँसँग अमेरिकामा (Asian American Federation र Chhaya) र दक्षिण एशियामा पनि गैर-नाफामूलक क्षेत्रमा दुई दशकभन्दा बढी काम गरेको अनुभव छ। उहाँ लामो समयदेखि अधिकारको कार्यको बलियो समर्थक हुनुहुन्छ। विशेष गरी जब हामी सबैजना बढ्दो जटिल राजनीतिक परिदृश्य र आप्रवासीहरू, महिलाहरू, र न्यून–मजदुरी गर्ने श्रमिकहरूमा परेको असमान प्रभावहरूलाई सामना गर्दैछौँ — जो अधिकारको कामको केन्द्रमा छन् — हामीलाई विश्वास छ कि ममताले आफ्नो अनुभवमार्फत ठूलो योगदान पुर्याउनु हुनेछ।
यस परिवर्तनको सुखद र दुखद दुवै पक्ष छ। यसै क्रममा, नर्बदा क्षत्री र सिन्थिया सक्सेनाको सह-कार्यकारी निर्देशकको पदबाट हट्दै हुनुहुन्छ र यही अगस्टको अन्त्यमा संस्थाबाट विदा लिनुहुनेछ।।
गत वर्ष उहाँहरूले दिनुभएको नेतृत्वको लागि हामी उहाँहरू दुवैलाई हृदयदेखि धन्यवाद दिन्छौं र उहाँहरूको आगामी यात्राको लागि सफलताको शुभकामना दिन्छौं। यस अवसरमा हामी विशेष गरी नर्बदा दिदिको सेवा र अधिकार (Adhikaar) प्रतिको समर्पणको कदर गर्न चाहन्छौं। अधिकार (Adhikaar) एउटा श्रमिक केन्द्र हो जुन हाम्रो समुदायका धेरै सदस्यहरूका लागि दोस्रो घर जस्तै छ, र नर्बदा दिदि हाम्रो संस्थाको १८ वर्षदेखि एउटा महत्त्वपूर्ण हिस्सा रहनुभएको छ।
हामीलाई थाहा छ कि यो परिवर्तन केही कठिन हुन सक्छ, तर सह-कार्यकारी निर्देशकहरूले यस्तो बलियो संस्था निर्माण गर्न मद्दत गर्नुभएको छ जसले आउँदो वर्षहरूमा पनि हाम्रो समुदायको लागि एउटा भरपर्दो खम्बा बनिरहनेछ भन्ने हामी आशा गर्दछौं। अधिकारका (Adhikaar) सदस्यहरूको दूरदर्शिता र नेतृत्वले हामीले गर्ने सबै कामलाई निरन्तर मार्गदर्शन दिइरहनेछ र हामी तपाईंहरूसँग हाम्रो निरन्तर सहकार्यको लागि तत्पर छौं।
