Folks, each time I've been sworn into Congress, I've worn a special scarf.

It's imprinted with the document that granted my great-great-great-grandfather the right to vote in 1867. It's a reminder of how far people of color have come. For him, it was a privilege to vote. For me, it's a privilege to serve in the Senate.

All the way from being enslaved, to finally getting the right to vote, to being elected to represent the First State, the history of voting rights can't be written without the help of people of color who fought tirelessly for it.

That's why when I heard of Donald Trump's latest attack on vote-by-mail, I was furious.

It's not enough that he undermined an entire election and rolled back voting rights across the country, now he has to attack a service that 30% of Americans used in the last election.

I won't sit idly by while he uses his power to launch attacks on marginalized communities and their ability to participate in our democracy.
