We’re reaching out with an important action request from Equality Arlington and the Arlington Gender Identity Alliance. Tonight, the Arlington School Board will once again face attacks on its pro-transgender policies, and we need your support to show up in solidarity. Lt. Gov. and Republican candidate for Governor Winsome Sears is expected to attend and speak in favor of the federal administration’s push for APS and other Northern Virginia school districts to roll back protections for transgender students.
This is a critical moment to show up in solidarity. Please join us:
📍 Rally Location: Grass in front of the Syphax Education Center, 2110 Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA
🕕 Rally Time: 6:15 PM, Wednesday (8/21)
🕖 School Board Meeting: 7:00 PM, 2nd floor, Syphax Education Center
Following the rally, we will head inside for the School Board meeting to show visible support for the Board and for public speakers who stand with transgender students. If you would like to speak during public comment, the lottery for speaker slots will be held between 6:15–6:45 PM outside the meeting room.
Bring homemade signs if you’d like—trans flags will be provided.
This is an important opportunity to send a clear message: we are grateful to the School Board for protecting transgender students, and we need them to continue standing strong in the face of political attacks. Because of the expected opposition turnout and potential national media attention, we recommend that children not attend this particular rally.
