Early Voting for Mayor, City Council begins Today

Early Voting starts Thursday, August 21 at the Hal Marshall Center uptown. Eight additional early voting sites are open Sept. 2 - 6. Click here for locations, dates and times. Primary Election Day at your precinct polling site is Tuesday, September 9. Eligible individuals may register and vote during the one-stop early voting period.
The Charlotte City Council oversees a wide range of city services affecting your daily life – including those listed below. It is important to use your vote to select a Mayor and City Council members who will best represent your interests.
- Public Safety:

The council plays a role in overseeing the police department and other public safety initiatives.
- Transportation:
We are involved in planning and funding transportation projects, including public transit and road infrastructure.
- Affordable Housing:
The council works to address housing affordability challenges in the city.
- City Budget:
We approve and manage the city's budget, which determines how taxpayer money is spent on various city services and operations.
- Legislation and Ordinances:
The council drafts, approves, and amends city laws, policies, and ordinances.
- Appointments:
We are responsible for appointing the city manager, city attorney, city clerk, and other key officials.
- Community Needs:
The council actively works to identify and address the needs of the Charlotte community.
- General Services:
The City of Charlotte website lists specific departments overseen by the council, including Animal Care and Control, City Cemeteries, Construction, Survey & Utilities.
