In a sharp rebuke, the California Supreme Court today dismissed a Republican push to delay Governor Gavin Newsom’s plan to redraw the state’s congressional districts. The court ruled that four Southern California GOP legislators—State Senators Tony Strickland, Suzette Martinez Valladares, and Assemblymembers Tri Ta and Kate Sanchez—failed to get the court to even consider their case. They had filed an emergency writ which the court could have heard, or acted upon. They chose not to do either. The Republicans argued Democrats were flouting a 30-day public review rule for new bills, demanding a delay. Clearly the justices were not swayed.
It doesn’t take long for action on these emergency writs. I only just gave you a full run down of this legal action this morning!
