The SANA news agency says Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani met with Israeli officials on Tuesday to discuss de-escalating tensions and restoring a 1974 ceasefire agreement. It said the talks were brokered by the United States, which has been pushing for Syria and Israel to normalize relations. Syrian officials have acknowledged holding indirect talks with Israel to defuse tensions. Tensions have soared between the two neighboring countries following the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad in December. WorkWorkVideo: How Tariffs Will Affect This Unique Cheese Stilton is a special type of blue cheese that can be made in only three English counties. There are just four producers of Stilton left, but this one was crowned best cheese in the world, according to one of the industry’s top awards last year. Eshe Nelson, a business reporter for The New York Times, went to Clawson Farms, the producer of the award-winning Stilton, which is trying to expand its business in the United States, despite the higher costs imposed by the Trump administration’s tariff policy. WorkWork WorkWorkWorkThe Growing Cohort of Single Dads by Choice - The Atlantic Charlie Calkins grew up in a big extended family. Were talking about nearly 30 cousinssome of whom had their own kids. When he was in high school, he spent a lot of time with those young children: a position that some surly teens might resent but that Calkins adored. The idea that someday he would be a father himself seemed, to him, only natural. WorkHow conservatives help their young thinkers - and why liberals don't It made sense that they were asking: We were at a conference for liberals, dedicated to building a version of the doctrine that works in the 21st century. They were interested in studying ideas professionally, and I was there to moderate a panel about political philosophy.
WorkWhat might Trumpian meddling mean for Intel? - The Economist WHEN LIP-BU TAN was summoned to the White House on Monday, he was ostensibly there to explain his investments in Chinese startups. After the meeting Donald Trump, who just a few days earlier had called for the boss of Intel to resign, was full of praise for his amazing story. Mr Tan has kept his job. But he probably had not reckoned on gaining a co-CEO. Mr Trump is now reported to be considering an investment in the chipmaker on behalf of Americas government. WorkHow AI support can go wrong in safety-critical settings When it comes to adopting artificial intelligence in high-stakes settings like hospitals and airplanes, good AI performance and brief worker training on the technology is not sufficient to ensure systems will run smoothly and patients and passengers will be safe, a new study suggests. WorkThe Pixel 10 is the first non-Pro model with a telephoto lens There are plenty more AI features onboard. There's a new audio model for Gemini Live. It's said to detect your emotion and control the assistant's emotional tone. (It sounds a bit creepy in theory, but we'll reserve judgment until we try it.) Then there's Pixel Journal, a private app with AI-generated prompts for recording thoughts. (It's launching first in Europe and English.) Finally, Voice Translate brings Google Meet's live translation feature to your phone calls. It translates calls to other languages in real time, simulating the users' voices. Wild stuff. WorkWorkWork
WorkTrump federal crackdown ripples through Washington neighborhoods President Donald Trump's decision to increase federal law enforcement and immigration agents in Washington, D.C., has impacted neighborhoods like Columbia Heights. On Tuesday, vendors noticed fewer customers, especially Spanish speakers. The White House reported 450 arrests since the federal operation began on August 7. The Republican president declared a crisis in the Democratic-controlled city, despite declining crime statistics, and took control of the police department for 30 days. Democratic Rep. Sam Liccardo of California introduced a bill to require reports on National Guard deployments, although it's unlikely to pass in the Republican-controlled Congress. WorkWorkClimbing game Cairn will have a 'free solo' mode with no rope Adding a dangerous style of climbing to what's already a difficult game feels appropriate in this case. On top of a climbing mechanic that makes you move each limb individually, Cairn also requires you to manage your hunger, thirst and an inventory of supplies. At least based on its demo, the game is far more demanding then something like Jusant, which was much more concerned with making its traversal fun and expressive rather than realistically difficult. WorkWork WorkWorkSony raises PS5 console prices in the US Normally by this point in a console’s lifecycle, we would have seen a price cut. But nope, nearly five years into this generation and those who haven’t snapped up a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S now face the prospect of having to shell out more money for the consoles. The same goes for the Nintendo Switch, but at this point you'd likely be better off with a Switch 2, which costs just $60 more. |
