Dear John,
Our representative democracy is fragile and under threat. Tonight we saw in Texas the result of an effort to create one-party Republican rule in our country. Texas Republicans enacted a gerrymandered and, frankly, racist Congressional map at the demand of Donald Trump that would strip the opportunity for millions of Texans, largely racial minorities, to elect the representative of their choice. This is the beginning of an effort across the nation to rig our elections so that even when the people want change, they cannot get it through their most precious right, the vote.
Here in Pennsylvania, we have seen this happen before. After the 2010 election, Republicans in the legislature enacted a gerrymandered Congressional map that in no way reflected the views of Pennsylvanians. There is no question that if given the chance, Donald Trump would demand a gerrymandered map like Texas in Pennsylvania, the most important state in the 2026 election with four to five swing US House seats and in 2028 when we (hopefully) elect the next President.
Protecting our democracy starts in our state legislatures and, critically, in the Pennsylvania State House, where I am part of a ONE SEAT majority. My seat is among those that will decide the majority and, as a result, the future of our nation.
I promise to stand in the breach and make sure that Pennsylvania remains a state where the voters pick their representatives, not the other way around. But I need your help. Can you contribute what you can to help me protect our democracy? [[link removed]]
