Friend—Did you see this email? We're still short of the funding we need to keep going during the pandemic. Will you donate to help reach our Mid-Year Fundraising Campaign goal of $75,000 by July 1?

Friend,

The news has gotten pretty dark lately, with coronavirus back on the rise, police killings, record-setting heat waves in the Arctic Circle, and more.

But right now we have something even more shocking to report: Good news.

Good news item #1: People power works. After weeks of marching in the streets, Black Lives Matter is forcing real reform in our racist criminal justice system. The City of Louisville banned no-knock warrants like the one used to murder Breonna Taylor. George Floyd's killer is behind bars. Public opinion is surging in support of police reform. Even Congress is looking like they might get something done.

Good news item #2: Last Tuesday, AOC-backed progressive Democrats swept the New York, primaries, including public school principal Jamaal Bowman knocking off incumbent pro-war Democrat Eliot Engel and attorney and activist Mondaire Jones winning in uber-wealthy northern suburbs of New York City.

Good news item #3 (probably the most important): The American people are rejecting Donald Trump's racism, corruption, and authoritarianism. His approval rating is dropping to historic lows and, if the election was held today, he'd be in danger of the biggest landslide defeat in the popular vote since 1984.

OK, so now let's come back down to Earth, because the world is still a pretty messed up place. And Common Dreams is facing serious challenges in continuing our crucial work providing the independent, nonprofit journalism that progressives like you count on.

With unemployment spiking and newsgathering made more difficult by the pandemic, we're facing a very real budget crunch. Some of our most reliable donors have had to cut back. In fact, hundreds of our recurring monthly donors—the lifeblood of our organization—have had to cancel.

To fully fund our operations in the weeks and months to come, we need to raise $75,000 by July 1. We know that not everyone can afford that right now given the state of the economy and massive layoffs. But if you can, please chip in today.

Please donate whatever you can today to help reach our Mid-Year Fundraising Campaign goal of $75,000 by July 1. Every little bit helps!
