I grew up middle class and learned early on what it means to work hard and make something out of nothing. At the age of 12, I started helping out at my family’s restaurant, then waitressed through college and worked full-time to put myself through law school. I learned quickly how to balance work and school in order to succeed. But this isn’t a story about struggle, it’s a promise of the future that hard work and dedication can build.

I studied law so that I could dedicate my life to standing up for those who are too often left behind: seniors struggling to access their hard-earned benefits, small business owners buried in red tape, survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, individuals with special needs, and so many others. And now, as the very laws meant to protect us are putting us in danger, I am committed to uniting, inspiring, and leading our county to take a stand for the future of our country.

I’ve seen firsthand the horrific effects of unjust immigration policies that divide families, and I’ve fought against them. When Narciso Barranco, a hardworking father of three sons serving our country in the Marines, was unlawfully detained by ICE, I stood in his corner. I advocated for him until he was able to come home to his family and speak for himself.

For the folks I represent, it’s never about money; it’s their freedom, family, and future at stake.

The politics of hate we are experiencing right now is dividing our country and destroying our economy. We, as the American people, have a say in the matter. It is time that we come together and create a future where the contribution of every American is welcomed and valued, where families are strengthened and united, where there is order and opportunity, and where we are not just surviving but thriving. It is time that we reclaim our democracy and become active participants in the future of this country.

Our current representatives in Congress are out of touch with the needs of the people, nor do they care about what’s in our best interest. Despite promises to make life more affordable, costs are rising. Healthcare is about to get a whole lot more expensive, many children are being left behind, and the reality is young people who call this community home can’t afford to live here as adults. Decent wages and job opportunities are real challenges going unaddressed. It’s time for change.

I’m running for Congress because I care, and I believe that what makes our country great is not its power, position, or politics. It’s the people. And we have the power to create a great future together.
