I recently joined my Georgia Democratic colleagues in urging Governor Brian Kemp to do the right thing and opt our state into the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer EBT nutrition program for 2026.

This program — also called SUN Bucks — would help feed more than 1.1 million low-income children in Georgia by providing families $40 per eligible child per month during the summer, when school meals aren’t available. For many kids, this is the difference between having enough to eat and going hungry.

Unfortunately, Governor Kemp has refused to participate since the program’s inception in 2024, leaving Georgia among the hungriest states for children in the country. That is unacceptable.

Participating in Summer EBT is a basic step to ensure that every child in Georgia has access to the basic necessity of food when they are not in school. I’ve spent my career fighting to protect programs like SNAP, TEFAP, and Summer EBT because no child in Georgia should ever go hungry. But keeping up this fight means protecting my seat and building a Democratic majority in Congress that will put children and families first.
