Dear FAMMily, My name is Jessie Dunaway. Just two months ago, I walked out of prison after two decades of a life sentence because I got a pardon from Gov. Northam. Back in 2005, while I was in prison, I discovered FAMM. During the darkest time of my life, FAMM gave me hope, and I knew I wasn’t fighting alone. Today, I'm advocating with FAMM from the outside. My partner Darlene and I believe in FAMM's impact, which is why we're monthly donors. I'm asking you to join us. |
FAMM is currently shining a light on the devastating impact of prison lockdowns. In each of the prisons I was housed at, we were constantly on lockdown due to staffing shortages. Those lockdowns meant days or weeks of being unable to leave my cell, only showering every 72 hours, and not being able to call my family to let them know I was okay. That kind of prolonged isolation can change a person forever. It changed me, and now I want to raise awareness about excessive lockdowns.
Why monthly gifts matter:
When urgent issues like these come up, monthly gifts make it possible for FAMM to act immediately — to raise awareness, share stories, and fight for reform. You can see that work in action here: Too Many Lockdowns: It’s Time to Push Back
I’m home now, starting college and building a new life. When I'm struggling with the trauma caused by excessive lockdowns, I stop and remember how inspired I felt when I called home and heard that FAMM was fighting for people like me. I didn't give up then, and I won't give up now. Will you stand with me by starting a monthly gift to FAMM today? |
