Donald Trump just announced his plans to ban mail-in voting by executive order ahead of next year’s midterm elections. This is a blatant attempt to hold onto control of Congress and defy the will of the American people.

Let’s be clear: mail-in voting is safe, secure, and essential to a free and fair democracy. I’ve fought for it here in California, and I’ve defended it in Congress. It expands access to the ballot box – especially for working people, seniors, and those serving overseas in uniform.

But Trump isn’t interested in protecting voting rights. He’s repeating the same lies used by foreign dictators like Vladimir Putin to undermine trust in elections and rig the rules in his favor.

If he succeeds, it would be one of the most dangerous assaults on our democracy in decades. The more he tries to rig the rules, the harder we must fight to protect every voter.
