John,
ICE is committing human rights abuses in our district in Arizona and our representative has said nothing.
Two of the largest ICE detention centers in our district, the Eloy Detention Center and the La Palma Correctional Center, are having massive COVID-19 outbreaks. Eloy has seen a 400% increase in cases, while La Palma has one of the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Reports now say that ICE is not only failing to properly protect immigrants inside the facilities, they are forcing migrants to clean the facilities without adequate protective equipment or face indefinite lock-ins and solitary confinement! Think about that. They are forcing people to further expose themselves to a potentially deadly virus and if they say no, they are punished.
These are human rights abuses, plain and simple. Yet my opponent is not only silent on these atrocities, he voted in 2018 for a bill declaring the work ICE does as “heroic” and “brave” while labelling immigrants as “criminal aliens” and a “threat to public safety”.
This kind of racism and xenophobia is what we see from Trump’s administration, and I will not stand for it.
Help me make it to Congress so I can stand up for our immigrant communities. [[link removed]]
The same immigrants he disparages are human beings that contribute to our communities and make our country run, especially during the coronavirus crisis. An estimated 19.8 million immigrant laborers work in "essential critical infrastructure" in the U.S, including 16% of all health care workers in the country.
You know what ICE does? ICE tears parents away from their children. ICE recently forced migrant parents to choose between being separated from their children or prolonged detention during a pandemic.
Nothing about that is heroic or brave. We need to abolish ICE, reunite families, and pass a humane immigration reform.
Help me replace a pro-ICE Democrat by contributing to our campaign. [[link removed]]
I condemn these human rights abuses in our district and across the entire country. We must end the demonization of immigrants and support a path to citizenship for the millions of people who have been contributing members of our society and from whose labor we have greatly benefitted.
When I’m in Congress, I will stand up and fight for the most marginalized communities in our country. My opponent can’t say the same.
