This year alone, communities across the country will elect more than 100,000 people to office. If history holds, Republicans will win more than half simply because no Democrat is on the ballot.

That means thousands of communities will have no choice at the ballot box, and MAGA extremists will hold office by default.

That’s why Contest Every Race exists. And we have a three-part plan that’s proven to help Democrats compete and win.

Step 1: Recruit everyday folks to run for office — everywhere.

Recruiting everyday folks to run for local office isn’t easy. It takes data, partnerships, and a lot of communication.

Here’s how we do it:

We partner with state and local Democratic Parties to understand where they’re having trouble recruiting.

We pinpoint specific races without Democratic opposition — some of which may only receive a couple of dozen total votes.

We then find every Democrat who’s eligible to run and give them the know-how to get their name on the ballot and point them to the resources needed to win.

This works. Since 2018, we’ve recruited nearly 12,000 folks to run in races where Republicans used to run unopposed.

43% of them won.

We’ve partnered with 16 states already this year, and we’re already launching plans to get started on 2026.

We know how to help communities fight back. Now we need to be bigger and stronger than ever before.

Step 2: Strengthen local Democratic Parties

For Democratic and anti-MAGA candidates to be successful, they need the support of their local party. From there, they can find volunteers, fundraisers, and the help needed to accelerate their campaign.

But national Democrats have pulled resources from red and rural areas for decades. That's why this year, we are supporting over 390 local Democratic teams through quarterly grants, monthly trainings, and dedicated organizers.

Our support has helped them boost recruiting efforts, build up their volunteer base, and show a measurable improvement in Democratic performance.

Over 1,100 teams applied to this program, but our funding meant we could only take on less than half. To rebuild the Democratic brand everywhere, we need to boost our fundraising right now to be ready for this year’s elections.

Step 3: Turn the tide — and the turnout

Contested races force Republicans to defend their record, expose their extremist agendas, and draw more Democrats to the polls.

This boosts turnout up and down the ballot. In battleground states, any increase in the Democratic vote is a chance to turn the national tide against Donald Trump and his band of corrupt extremists.

Last year, Democratic teams in our program were some of the few in their state to shift more blue. And if we can take on more teams right now, we can lay the groundwork for more progress.
