John, it's Lois Frankel.
Construction at Alligator Alcatraz has ceased!
At the start of Trump's second administration, he and DeSantis worked together to open one of the cruelest deportation camps in the country: Alligator Alcatraz.
It's deep in the Everglades, where detainees are being held in cages, in excessive heat, with broken toilets and air conditioning, inadequate food, and illness running wild.
I introduced the No Cages in the Everglades Act in July, but it took a lawsuit by environmental groups and the Miccosukee tribe to have construction temporarily halted by a federal judge.
But Ron DeSantis just announced his plans to open Deportation Depot : a supplemental jail for thousands more awaiting deportation under the new administration.
John, this is inhumane. What we need is real, bipartisan immigration reform that reflects our values and strengthens our economy— not cruel political theater at the expense of people and the environment.
Today, will you sign my petition to condemn these actions by Trump, DeSantis, and his MAGA allies in Florida? [[link removed]]
