Donald Trump attacked me and the city of Baltimore last week from the Oval Office, and it’s not the first time he’s done it.
In response, we’re counting on a huge spike in grassroots support so my team can spread the truth about our work.
The president seems to have a sick obsession with the progress that we’re making in the state. And while he’s pulling performative stunts like sending the National Guard into D.C., in Maryland we’re focused on performance.
Since taking office, we’ve led the country in drops in violent crime, homicides, and shootings. Our number one priority is making sure people feel safe in their communities and our policies – from investing in law enforcement to investing in community violence prevention – reflect that priority. That’s performance.
Meanwhile, Trump is sending our National Guard – servicemembers that are trained to be sent into states at times of crisis and emergency – into cities to perform municipal policing functions. You don’t need to have served our country like me to know that’s performative.
While Trump attacks us from the Oval Office, in Maryland we’re laser focused on continuing our work to make our communities safer.
