Dear John,
Today marks 7 months since President Trump’s inauguration gave Republicans full control of government in Washington. There have been many positive steps taken over the past 7 months to reverse the harm caused by Democrats over the previous 4 years.
These positive steps include President Trump’s executive actions to:
Stop the border invasion
Begin deporting illegal aliens
Shrink the federal workforce by hundreds of thousands
Require in-person work for federal employees
Begin to dismantle the Department of Education
Unleash American energy
Reverse harmful green/climate regulations
Eliminate racist and discriminatory DEI policies
Address violent crime in DC
Protect free speech & religious freedom by not enforcing the Johnson Amendment
Eliminate 10 regulations for every new regulation
Exit the World Health Organization (WHO)
Congress has also taken more permanent legislative action to:
Pass a $9 billion rescission cut to foreign aid & public broadcasting
Extend the 2017 Trump tax cuts
Implement new tax cuts for seniors and on tips & overtime
Fund the completion of the border wall
Fund more Border Patrol & ICE agents
However, Republicans have fallen short when it comes to addressing the nation’s growing fiscal crisis. We are projected to have another $2 trillion-plus deficit this year, and the nation’s $37 trillion debt is on track to grow to $39 trillion heading into the 2026 midterm elections.
There is also a fast-approaching September 30 deadline to fund the government, and there is the threat of a Schumer Shutdown in the Senate. I’ve spoken about these issues with six of my former conservative House colleagues on the Good for America podcast during this August recess, getting their take on these past 7 months and where Republicans go from here.
