Dear Friends,
I am excited to share the latest news from Congress and the work I am doing in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the 34th Congressional District of Texas.

Celebrating 90 Years of Social Security
On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law ensuring Americans can retire with dignity. Ninety years later, despite Republican attacks, this vital program continues to protect and reduce the poverty rates among seniors.
Rest assured that I will continue to strengthen and improve Social Security. We owe it to our seniors to protect their hard-earned retirement benefits they paid into through a lifetime of hard work.
Standing By Our Teachers and Retirees to Expose the Truth About the Big Ugly Bill
On Thursday, August 14, 2025, I joined the members of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) to highlight the damaging impacts that cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and SNAP will have on South Texas families, children, veterans, and senior citizens.
I voted against Republicans’ “Big, Ugly Bill” because of the devastating effects it would have on South Texas and Americans at large. This legislation strips healthcare from almost 17 million Americans, including more than 1.6 million Texans and over 100,000 South Texans; adds almost $4 trillion to the deficit over the next decade; and forces over 42 million Americans to go hungry, including over 65,000 households in South Texas.

A Message for Our Students as They Prepare to Go Back to School
Watch HERE
A new school year means new opportunities for learning, growth, and personal development. To ensure that our students and teachers have the resources they need to succeed, I have been working diligently in Washington to secure the funding our schools deserve.
I also want to take the time to thank every parent, teacher, custodian, teaching assistant, and school administrator that has been working all summer to make this new school year a success.
