WINDHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing the two Great Falls Bridges over the Presumpscot River in Windham from August 26 at 7 A.M. to October 9 at 6 P.M for a bridge wearing surface replacement project. The Great Falls Bridges are located on Windham Center Road over the Presumpscot River and connect Windham to North Gorham.
Drivers should follow the marked detour route of taking North Gorham Road to Standish Neck Road, make a right on Chadbourne Road and then a right on Roosevelt Trail to get to River Road. The detour will be clearly marked with detour signs along the entire route of the detour. There is currently a message board along each approach warning motorists of the upcoming closure. This project will include replacement of the bridge wearing surfaces, 350 feet of approach improvements, installation of guardrail transitions and flare terminals, and modifications to expansion joints. Crews will also remove a light pole that interferes with the placement of the new guardrail. This project will extend the lifespan of the bridge's existing deck and structural components. The contractor on this project is Scott Construction Corporation of Portland, Maine. The contract amount is $398,567.60.
